Alright, so this is going to be a past project that I can't say much about... but I promise its real and I wanted to prove that I take confidentiality very seriously so that's why i will be light on the details.
So lets just say, a medical device company asked me to make them a few prototypes that were basically the same idea, but with perturbations on dimensions and a few key features. They wanted to test form and fit on a human before they went further and I had the know-how to do it!!! We used TPU filament so it was flexible enough to go around the human part, and we even cut the print to size real time then adjusted the CAD file and reprinted. Rinse and repeat!
And, at the end of the day they picked their favorite design and brought it to their full production manufacturer for the next steps.
So why start with 3D printing? So while CAD models are great, and 3D pictures are great, there is nothing like having it in your hand to try! And for very little cost we were able to do 4 variations of a design in about a week! You could never do this with traditional tool and die makers, injection molding, etc...
Thanks UN-named medical device company, I hope your XXXXXXX product is a hit!
